So you've seen what being a Freemason means, and you're interested? Now see how easy it to join us...
What do I need to think about before joining?
Well, there are some initial fundamental details you will need to agree to. This includes a Belief in a Supreme Being – we use this phrase as Freemasonry is open to any religious denomination.
You need to be 21 years and over, although there are opportunities for the sons of current Masons to join earlier. You also must be of good character; references are often taken on prospective members.
We would always recommend you join a Lodge that meets on a day that you have spare time or has an extended interest in one of your existing hobbies. We have many different interest Lodges that you can become a member of. For our Lodge, that link has been Round Table and 41 Club, but we are open to any new member who wishes to extend their knowledge and friendship groups. Many of our members attend more than one Lodge following their interests and combining them with Freemasonry.
There are joining fees and subscriptions to pay each year, but we do keep these to a minimum based on our anticipated expenditure.
What comes next?
We follow a simple process to progress your application. You complete a form and provide some references. We will then invite you to an informal chat so that you can ask any questions – but we will not identify how the Lodge works at that stage. What we will tell you is what you can expect from us, and what we hope to achieve with you.
If you don't know anyone who is a member and that you can talk to, then your first step is to contact us here. Our Lodge will respond quickly to you and probably suggest we have a chat over the phone initially.
You may also be interested to find out more about the University Scheme and become a member of one of our Student Lodges, or or check our Links page for access to Freemasonry for ladies.
